Our favorite trifecta is returning to the Dallas Arts District on Friday night: a full evening of entertainment, from 6pm–midnight, spread out across the Dallas Museum of Art, Nasher Sculpture Center and the Crow Collection of Asian Art, plus food trucks, vendors, music and special evening activities at Klyde Warren Park. There is no way to do it all, so here are a few of our favorite family activities.
Late Night at the DMA
a) 6–10pm: Late Night Creations in C3 Art Studio
Learn about the elaborately staged shows called wayang kulit, a performance art from Central and East Java with carved shadow puppets.
b) 7–7:30pm: Yoga for Kids in C3
The DMA’s resident yoga instructor will lead kids through meditation, relaxation and pretzel-like poses.
c) 7:30pm: Bedtime Stories with Arturo in the C3 Theater
Do the kids sometimes insist on wearing their pajamas? Of course. Come dress in your nighttime attire and bring a pillow for bedtime stories by storyteller Ann Marie Newman.
Crow Collection After Dark
a) 6–10pm: Bronze molds art activity on Flora Street
Create your own sculpture inspired by the bronze works on view in the Crow’s exhibits.
b) 6–10pm: Embossing techniques on the second floor Arbor Walk
Create your own embossing design and take your craft home with you.
c) 6–8pm: Face painting on the second floor Arbor Walk
Because face painting is a hit at any party, any time.
d) 9:30–11pm: Karaoke After Dark in the Grand Gallery
Klyde Warren Park
a) 6–7pm: Guitar Lessons with School of Rock in The Dallas Morning News Reading & Games Room
b) 7–10pm: Lawn Games at Ginsburg Family Great Lawn. The games carts will be open late with a special selection of lawn games including kubb, petanque and cornhole. Wondering what those are? Make it a learning experience for yourself as well as for the kids.
‘Til Midnight at the Nasher
a) 7pm: Live concert in the Nasher Garden with Salim Nourallah & The Treefort 5. The Nasher Café will be open with salads, sandwiches, snacks and beverages.
b) 7pm: Progressive Museum Tour. Meet at the Nasher’s admissions desk for a family-friendly guided tour through all three art museums.
c) Is Friday night your date night? Reserve a picnic basket by noon today and stay for the 9pm showing of Moonrise Kingdom, rated PG-13.
