Some of the Internet-connected thermostats used by TXU Energy customers have been recalled because they could start a fire.
TXU, a unit of Energy Future Holdings, said Thursday the company that makes the iThermostat will contact around 3,800 customers affected by the recall.
TXU spokesman Michael Patterson said more than 10,000 customers have the thermostats, which allow users to set room temperatures remotely through a website. But the manufacturer, Comverge, used the faulty design for only some of the devices.
Patterson said that no one has filed a claim against Comverge and that the device hasn't caused any fires.
Comverge will send letters to the customers with the faulty thermostats.
Those customers should call Comverge and make an appointment for a technician to come fix the device.
TXU will give the affected customers $75 credits to spend at the company's online energy-efficiency store. Customers may not apply the credit to their electricity bills.
