McKinney TX
McKinney is one of several fast-growing communities on the northeastern edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
McKinney is located 30 miles north of Dallas. It is located in of Collin County, Texas, United States, and is the county seat. Both the city and county are named after Collin McKinney, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence, and a congressman for the Red River district of the Republic of Texas.
Despite the rate of growth in McKinney, it still maintains a small town charm.
The city is also bordered by State Highway 121 (S.H. 121) which connects the city from DFW International Airport on the west to Allen and Fairview on the east. There are plans to continue this highway in both directions.
Collin County Regional Airport is also located in McKinney as well as the Central Campus of Collin College. But the jewel of McKinney is The Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary. There are always many things to do, see and experience at the Heard. The sanctuary, nature trails, native plant garden, education department, exhibits and collections, nature store and rental facilities provide visitors with an array of services and activities.
McKinney has a highly recognized school district McKinney is served primarily by the McKinney Independent School District, but some western areas of McKinney are zoned to nearby Frisco Independent School District and southern areas to Allen Independent School District.
Over the last several years McKinney has gained national media attention for the multiple LEED and sustainable (Green) buildings that have been constructed within the city. McKinney is home of the first privately developed LEED Platinum office building, which was speculatively developed by Westworld Holdings, as well as Roy Lee Walker Elementary, the first sustainable school in Texas.
