Dallas TX, is distinctive, diverse and dynamic. This is especially true in East Dallas. From historical houses to new construction, East Dallas TX has it all. The early architecture featured Tudor styled homes as well as Craftsman, Dilbeck and Hutsell. Sitting on the front porch with neighbors is a common occurrence in this area.

 

This area, known as East Dallas, encompasses a large geographic area. Taking in such notable neighborhoods as The M Streets, Greenland Hills, Vickery Place, Lakewood, Ridgewood Park, Caruth Terrace, Casa Linda, Casa View, Forest Hills, Lochwood and Lake Highlands Estates to name a few. These areas are defined by tree lined streets and a strong sense of neighborhood pride.

 

Tucked in the center of East Dallas is White Rock Lake. For Love of the Lake, a neighborhood volunteer group, protects the lake like the jewel it is. The jog and bike trail that follows for 10 plus miles around the lake is a draw to many Dallas residents.

 

Another treasure for Dallas is Fair Park, home to The State Fair of Texas. Every year from late September through October fair goers can delight in carnival rides, exhibits from cars to crafts, incredible food from around the world and entertainment of all kinds. Also located here is the SuperPages.com Amphitheatre, home to all genre of music. The State Fair Music Hall is a wonderful old theater that houses Broadway Musicals. The Women’s Museum, The Science Place, African American Museum, Dallas Museum of Natural History and Dallas Aquarium are some of the cultural attractions that can be found at

Fair Park year round.

 

There is no shortage of shopping or entertainment in East Dallas. This area is known more for small Mom and Pop establishments and less for large national stores. The restoration of Casa Linda Shopping Center, one of the older areas of Dallas, has been long awaited. Lakewood has wonderful restaurants and the old restored Lakewood Theater is used for local live theater as well as student projects. Hillside Village is a larger shopping area housing super markets, clothing stores, as well as some great eating establishments. You cannot live in East Dallas and not hang out on Greenville Avenue, an eclectic mix of people and entertainment. Henderson  Avenue entertainment district is a newer addition to this area with so many restaurants to choose from. You could pick a new one every week and fill out your year.

 

East Dallas could be a city to itself but we are glad it is part of the larger picture of the city of Dallas, Texas.
